In 2012 on the Overmountain Victory Trail Association march to Kings Mountain, Tim Massey, Ronnie Lail, and Dan Hopping were discussing the inaccuracy of the many lists of the men that fought at Kings Mountain. One thought was that an organization was needed to collect the records from descendants and compile an accurate, documented list. Later that year Massey, Lail, Chad Bogart, and Michael Mankin decided to organize the Descendants of the Battle of Kings Mountain. The four contributed the funds to found and cover the costs of chartering the organization.
The members of the Descendants of the Battle of kings Mountain have long been involved with the Sons of the Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution, Children of the American Revolution, Overmountain Victory Trail Association, and others. Your contributions enable us to compile the roll of those who served at Kings Mountain, but more importantly, we are able to support activities as a group whose ancestors fought in the battle that turned the Tide of the American Revolution. We have been able to support the Washington County Fife & Drums, place roadside historical markers to honor Kings Mountain Patriots, mark graves, and support The Children of the American Revolution, our most important generation.
Whether you help through monetary donations, becoming a member, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.
